We know that choosing the best newborn car seat for your precious bundle can be a daunting task. For your peace of mind, mothercare has in-store experts to help you pick the right car seat and ensure it’s properly fitted in your car before you drive off. Take a look at our car seat buying guide if you want to do some reading up on the different types before you go in. Remember, not all car seats fit all vehicles, so make sure yours are compatible.
A newborn baby car seat in group 0+ is suitable for babies up to 12 months. Some will convert into toddler car seats and even booster seats, so see what works for your baby and your budget. In the UK, your baby’s car seat must be rear-facing until they are 15 months old. As your little one grows, you’ll need a model that’s suitable for their changing height and weight (categorised as either ‘i-Size’ or 0-3.) Many of our baby car seats have adjustable head and back rests. New regulations in February 2017 introduced ISOFIX car seats as standard (this is basically a super secure way of strapping your little one in). See our guides to ISOFIX and i-Size car seats for a detailed breakdown.
Safety is our number one concern, though we also want to make the ride as smooth as possible for your little one (and ideally keep fretting and fidgeting to a minimum!) A baby car seat is padded and protected to ensure your baby is comfy and snuggled in. With all that comfort they’re bound to drift off (right?) and the last thing you want to do is wake them up unnecessarily, which is why nearly all of our baby car seats have a carry handle. Some can even be attached to a pushchair to form a travel system, minimising the risk of disturbing them and making your life that little bit easier.
