pregnancy checklist: six essential items for mums-to-be

When you're pregnant, comfort is key. Our handy pregnancy checklist includes tips to keep you and your bump happy, whether that means choosing the cosiest fabrics or relaxing in lavender baths.

1.
a good bra

Your bra's likely to be one of the first of your pre-pregnancy garments to start feeling the pinch. Buying a supportive and comfortable maternity bra should be at the top of your pregnancy to-do list. Maternity bras aren’t the utilitarian pieces of scaffolding they used to be, either (phew) – they're now as pretty, sporty, or glamorous as you could wish for. We offer a bra-fitting service in our stores, so pop in and we’ll help you choose the right size.

2.
a great outfit

When you're deciding what to buy when pregnant, it’s really important to have at least one outfit you feel fabulous in! Invest in a dress that you really love for those later months of pregnancy. You may be missing your usual jeans – so have a look at our maternity ones in lots of different colours and cuts. These days, maternity clothes are flattering and stylish – so whatever your usual look is, you can still work it while you’re pregnant.

3.
comfy pyjamas

There's nothing like cuddling up in a pair of cosy pyjamas for getting a good night's sleep! Choose a set designed for breastfeeding mums if you want something that will last well after your baby's arrived.

4.
a sleep cushion

Getting comfy at night can be a little trickier with a growing bump, so a sleep cushion can be a marvellous help. Choose from designs that support your tummy, back and knees during pregnancy, as well as options that double up as handy feeding pillows.

5.
some relaxing
bubble bath

Treat yourself to a nice, soothing bath. There are lots of luscious bath products out there designed especially for mums-to-be, as well as formulas that are suitable for babies, too.

6.
a good book

While you’re soaking in the tub, make the most of this restful time by enjoying a good read. At mothercare, we have a selection of wise and reassuring pregnancy books – but you may just want to lie back with a novel, of course. Enjoy this lovely time of nurturing your growing bump – and remember to treat yourself, too!
