Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! I’m so thankful for these nipple shields, without these I wouldn’t have been able to breastfeed which would have been extremely disappointing to me. Life saver!! I bought 6 of these as they are easy to misplace

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic! These nipple shields are fantastic. I wad given some shields when in hospital but needed to replace them now my little boy has been home 2 months. I've tried lots of different shields and these are the best by far! They are just like the ones from the nhs, they stay in place and aren't too fat, which is perfect for my little boy as his mouth is quite small from being premature. The storage case is also very handy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely Priceless!!! The Best product!!! Makes me emotional when i think abt it...As a first time mum the journey at the beginning after the baby arrived was painful firstly my son was born with a tongue tie and i had flat nipples...after the tongue tie correction my hopes of breastfeeding were crushed when the baby couldn't latch onto my flat nipples, i stayed at the hospital for 4 days just to give it my absolute best at breastfeeding as they refused to send me home until they saw me feed as i kept saying i want to breastfeed n not bottle. None of the nurses or midwives suggested nipple shields and a few even discouraged me to try them looking back now mayb they dint knw much abt them. So we gave up and got discharged once home while researching i came across these shields and as i had a medela b pump i bought the medela shields when i tried them i just couldnt get them to work very fiddly and the baby just got frustrated so i gave up, but when the health visitor came she suggested a breastfeeding consultant can comeover and help me and it was the best thing ever she encouraged me to use helped me keep it in place while d baby got used to sucking on it and in one visit and a good few tries baby knew exactly how to latch...my husband had to help me first week to just keep them in place when i put the baby in position, aftee both me n baby got a hang of it its been soo easy...its more how u feel as a new mum manoeuvring with a tiny delicate baby then the product being at fault so once u get the trick and comfort level its the best thing ever...easy to clean n store i have got 2 sets now...i have gone from 6-8 bottles a day to zero bottles n full breastfeeding in just a few weeks after the milk supply picked up i stopped expressing milk in a month as feeding with the shields is soo very easy and no much cleaning compared to ebm or formula. Please give them a chance and keep trying till you and baby are comfortable...my son is 5 months now and happy when he sees the shields he knows its his favourite time where he will be fed. Well done medela absolutely priceless feels almost like skin just sticks on to the boob with few drops of milk. Love it!!!

Questions & Answers

Hi, i bought a pair size medium but not having much success so far! Is the nipple meant to reach the top of the shield where the milk comes out?or is there meant to be a gap?

Asked by: anna
I bought them but I didn't used them, i know that the nipples should be in till the end with no gap, you probably need a smaller size, small advice the pain is not gone last long and after a while of breastfeeding you won't feel a thing

How do I know what size to buy? Do I measure just the sticky out bit of nipple or the base of the nipple too?

Asked by: cc
The most important part about getting the right fit for me was the size of your nipple because if you get the small size that fits you might not have a secure seal for around the nipple which is the important part regarding fitting as this is the part the baby sucks for there milk supply during feeding. I used a medium size & they were perfect my cup size was between a D/E cup. I am exclusively BF now with baby no4 but not had to use any again they were amazing with my last baby as she had a severe tongue tie good luck hope you find what you need & get on well with your product.

Can the nipple shield case be sterilised and then keep the shields sterile?

Asked by: Victoria
These nipple shields are made of high quality silicone which is steriliser safe. The cases are made from a plastic - I'm not sure which - but from my experience they sterilise okay. As long as you are sure to put enough water in the steriliser so the items don't over heat. In terms of keeping the shields sterile, the cases would keep them clean, but they are effectively not sterile as soon as you take them out to put them in the case.

Is the size difference the diameter of the nipple or the length? Thanks

Asked by: No1phys
Hello, Thank you for your query. Available in Small = 16mm Medium = 20mm or Large = 24mm You measure the diameter from the base of the nipple, recommended after you have breastfed when it is warm. I hope this helps

My baby is teething and bit me a couple of times while feeding. Whether this shield can protect and reduce the pain for the case?

Asked by: Lily
Hello, Thank you for your query Medela Contact Nipple Shields offer relief for sore, cracked, flat or inverted nipples and can also help latching on difficulties. The special contour allows maximum skin contact between you and your baby. They should ease some of the pain from bitting. I hope this helps

Are the sizes (16, 20 or 24mm) the size of the hole that the baby latches on to or are they the size of the nipple you are putting in to it? How do you know which of the 3 sizes is best for your breasts?

Asked by: Angela
I'm not sure actually. I think it's the size of the bit that goes over the nipple. I bought a couple of sizes and decided from there which ones were most comfortable for me. I still use both sizes and they work just as well as each other.

How often do you need to renew these nipple shields.

Asked by: Sarah
Just like a teat on a bottle id say check for signs of wear before each use and replace if and when you see any. Or just change every 3 months :-)
