I found there was no need for a moses basket in the first few months, as he was close to me at all times, which made up for the snugness of a basket. It was also ideal for breast feeding, as I could simply lift him over to our bed without having to get out of bed myself! I put a rolled up blanket between the cot and our mattress, to cover the slight gap. I would suggest you put up the remaining cot side when your baby starts crawling.

The problem is that there is a large gap between the cot and the bed which is far too dangerous for the baby. We contacted Mothercare and were told that there should be a gap, but if we were worried we should buy a bigger matteress. The problem is that not only is this another expense the side will not go up with a bigger matteress. Also if the gap is not a problem why is it not shown in the picture? In the picture it is covered over and looks like the cot is flush to the bed. After much stress we came up with the idea of having a piece of foam cut to size which I then velcroed to the matteress, this has worked fine up until now that my son is 9 months old and I can no longer leave the side of the cot down. So now I have to reattach the foam when joining the cot to the bed. Also the wheels are not secure enough and so I had to remove them. This is a really great idea espcially for when breastfeeding but it needs to be reviewed and improved greatly.

I'm now using this for the second time since my first in 2004 and it is brilliant for breastfeeding. It means you can do the nightfeeds without having to leave your bed and putting baby back in in the night is less disruptive and wakeful as you can simply 'slide' baby across instead of having to pick up and put down. HOWEVER, it should be noted that the cot does not sit flush with your mattress, particularly if your bedstead is not flush with your mattress, but I did get around this by pushing the mattress up to mine and filling the gap with rolled up blankets which seemed to do the job. That aside, the plastic parts simply let this expensive cot down. On my cot, only two wheels are 'lockable', but that ultimately they do not stop the cot from moving. This is probably to be expected to a degree as anything can 'slide' across carpet (in my case), but is frustrating and annoying. More importantly is the catches which hold the drop-down side - they are simply CHEAP AND RUBBISH. I had 2-3 replacements the first time I used it, which were fortunately under repair. The last time the catch broke I received a pair as replacements (although they do fit either side) so had a spare replacement. Now, 9 months in to using it for the second time, one broke last week (thank goodness for the spare) and now, tonight, the other side has broken...... leaving me trying to get hold of one and probably having to pay something silly for what is a CRUCIAL part of any cot. In fact I have to admit I'm surprised it passed safety testing, but there we go. If you have a docile baby which you never leave in it's cot, you probably won't suffer that problem, but if you have a baby which likes to grab onto the side, boogie up and down, etc, then you will probably experience the same problem.

Because the cot was by our bed, we didn't really have to use the drop down side until recently when our baby was older and was moved into her own room. After only a few times of lifting and lowering the drop-down side, both latches snapped. So loved the idea of the cot, but certainly shocked by the poor quality. Also have had problems trying to obtain replacement parts from Mothercare. Would advise checking out alternative brands.

i brought this cot for my first as it made breastfeeding and sleeping alot easier. and am using again with my second.
the only faults i can find with it is that the locks that hold the side in place was easily broken (mothercare did replace these within a week) and so were the wheel locks which ive had to remove so it doesnt roll away. ive also found there was a gap between the bed and cot which ive rolled up a blanket to fill it in.
overall it was a good buy, i would recommend to friends, but think there could be improvements.
